“Stomp it” to the 2018 Great Jesup Farmers Day Parade, July 7
Make some noise and stake out your spot – it’s almost time to enjoy this year’s Farmers Day Parade!

Organizations, churches, business, families, and children are invited to prepare floats for the Farmers Day parade. The theme is: “Stomp It” Dinosaurs. The Jesup Chamber of Commerce will be awarding a $200 sweepstakes prize for the single best overall float in the parade. Farmers Day, Inc. will award $40 for first place and $15 for second place for each of the float categories.

Judges will walk the parade float line-up at 9 a.m. to observe the entire parade and begin to determine winners of the prizes. They will also observe the entries as they pass the judge’s stand. Parade winners will be announced at the Park Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Business floats will line up on Prospect Street in front of the school. Church floats, organization floats, Shriners and family floats will also line up on Prospect but east of Sixth Street. Fire, ambulance, farm equipment and bands will line up on Sixth Street in front of Jesup Community School. Vintage autos, decorated trucks and decorated cars will be lined up in the school parking. Horses will line up on the grassy area of the sports complex nearest the elementary school. All cars and tractors are asked to placard their vehicle with a model year.

Proof of Insurance for Horses
There is no registration or fee for entering the parade. Those riding horses and ponies, however, are asked to call parade organizer Jim McCarty, at 319-290-3909, and leave a name and telephone number prior to the parade day. Parade entry of any horse or pony pulling a wagon or cart will need to show proof of insurance to cover liability in case of accidents.

Parade Route
The parade will travel south from the school on Sixth Street to Hawley Street; east on Hawley to Main Street; south on Main Street to Stevens; west on Stevens Street to Fifth Street and disperse at the Douglas intersection. Everyone is invited to participate in this beloved Farmers Day tradition. For more information, contact McCarty at 319-290-3909.

Candy Throwing
Parade organizers are asking that candy NOT be thrown from cars, tractors, semis or floats this year, but is still encouraged to be given out. People should walk along with their floats and toss the candy to the crowd while they are on foot.

Shriners Donations
The Shriners cars will be attending the Farmers Day Parade again this year. Those who would like to donate to the Shriners, who support free children's hospitals, can drop off donations at Bank Iowa or Farmers State Bank.
